There are many valid and important issues where you could probably do well working with the right person. In the cases listed here, I’m not the right person, not because I don’t care or want to help, but because I lack the specialized training needed. You’re still welcome to call as I may know somebody who does work with this stuff. I’m encouraging you to take your own problems seriously and treat them as worthy of care regardless.
Obsessive thoughts about a recurring theme, or compulsive and repetitive behaviors
These are as seen in obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). Many of the most common mental illnesses like anxiety and depression benefit from a common family of treatments including the ones I’m trained in. OCD is not like this. If you suspect you have symptoms or have been previously diagnosed and are resuming treatments, I recommend seeing someone who practices Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP). This treatment has shown some superior results over other treatments for OCD in some studies.
Eating disorders
If you struggle to eat enough, or too much, or experience other significant distress around food or eating, or persistently see your own body as flawed in ways that others disagree with, you may benefit from eating disorder treatment. This is important work, but aside from specialized mental health treatment also usually benefits from significant medical support that I am not equipped to provide.
